Twinsburg Board of Education regular meeting
Nov. 5, 2025
6:30 p.m.
Twinsburg Government Center
10075 Ravenna Rd., Twinsburg 44087

Attendance: Board President Rhonda Crawford, as well as board members Tina Davis, Lea Travis, Beth Egan and Maria Hamilton; Interim Superintendent Steve Marlow, Treasurer Julia Rozsnyai and Business Manager Matthew Strickland

Summary

Board President Rhonda Crawford was reelected. Another seat has not been decided because the race came down to only three votes, and the Board of Elections needs to recount and add provisional and mail-in ballots to determine the winner.

A public meeting was to be held Nov. 12 at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School for the community to provide input on the district’s search for a new superintendent. Those who were unable to attend but would like to comment can contact Interim Superintendent Steve Marlow.

Crawford reminded students and parents that college application deadlines are approaching and the high school would have a career week from Nov. 10-14.

Students from Samuel Bissell Elementary and R.B. Chamberlin Middle School were presented Student of the Month awards for good behavior, work ethic and academic performance.

Beginning Jan. 1, as required by a new state law, Twinsburg schools will enact a policy prohibiting the use of cellphones during school hours. The exact details of this policy, such as where phones may be stored, are still being decided.

Marlow commended the two latest retiring faculty members, Vicki Robbins, school psychologist, and Wilcox Principal Lynn Turner.

A 2-year district calendar for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years was proposed. The calendar is expected to be put to a vote at the Dec. 10 regular meeting. Typically, the district sets a 1-year calendar, but the decision was made to extend it to two to allow parents to plan farther ahead.

The board approved payments for the replacement of electric panels at Twinsburg High School that were damaged by lightning and new scoreboards for the boys varsity baseball team and girls varsity softball team.

Board President’s Report

Board President Rhonda Crawford thanked the community for reelecting her. The board is still waiting on the official results for the third board seat, because the race came down to three votes and will be recounted by the Board of Elections with provisional and mail-in ballots.

Crawford said that a parent communication went out to provide an update on the superintendent search. The agency that is helping the district with this is not charging any money, and they are using public feedback to inform their search. A public meeting was scheduled for Nov. 12 at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School for community members to provide their input on the new superintendent search. For those interested in giving thoughts but who were unable to attend, contact Interim Superintendent Steve Marlow.

Crawford also reminded students that deadlines are approaching to apply to colleges. Twinsburg High School had a career week scheduled for Nov. 10-14.

She congratulated the girls soccer team on winning the district championship title and regional runner-up, the football team on making it to the playoffs, and the boys soccer team, who also won their district championship. The cheerleaders and high school orchestra were also commended for their performance in recent competitions.

Interim Superintendent’s Report

Students from Samuel Bissell Elementary and R.B. Chamberlin Middle School were honored as Students of the Month.

Marlow extended his congratulations to the student athletes, orchestra and band members for their success. He added that some students are moving on to compete at the All-State level.

Marlow also reminded the community that beginning Jan. 1, the district will be enforcing a new personal communication device policy. New Ohio law prohibits students from using cellphones during school hours and requires each district to draft a cellphone policy. Certain details of this policy, such as where cellphones will be kept during the school day, are still being worked on.

Marlow commended the two latest retiring faculty members, Vicki Robbins, school psychologist, and Wilcox Principal Lynn Turner.

There were no committee reports.

Marlow brought forth a proposal to approve a 2-year district calendar for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. This calendar is expected to be put to a vote at the Dec. 10 regular meeting. Typically, the district sets a 1-year calendar, but the decision was made to extend it to two to allow parents to plan farther ahead. The proposed calendars are available to view on the school district’s website. Both calendars include a one-week fall break over Thanksgiving, a two-week winter break and a one-week spring break during the last week of March. Parents are encouraged to look over the proposed calendars and contact the district with their feedback.

Treasurer’s Report

The board approved the meeting minutes from the regular board meeting held Sept. 24 and special meetings held Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, accepted the financial reports for the month of September and approved all expenditures for the month of September.

Personnel Action Items

New Business Action Items

The following action items were approved unanimously by the board:

The revision of a contract for professional services with the STEPS Educational Group, for one student who is attending STEPS Academy for the 2025-2026 school year. The contract was originally approved for $85,000 for tuition; however, due to additional needs for the student, the new cost is $97,264.81. This was paid out of the General Fund.

The amendment of the School Health Services Agreement with Akron Children’s Hospital to provide first aid training to preschool staff at a cost not to exceed $885. This was paid out of the General Fund.

The Twinsburg Board of Education will hold a public hearing to give notice of and allow public comment on the recommendation for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 academic calendars.

Emergency repairs of new electric panel components at Twinsburg High School from Marks Electric, LLC, for a total of $64,742.66. This is related to the insurance claim filed for the lightning strike that occurred at the building in May of 2024 and is a Permanent Improvement Fund expenditure.

The replacement of the scoreboard at the boys varsity baseball field from Mega Lift for a total cost of $12,252.25. This is a Permanent Improvement Fund expenditure.

The replacement of the scoreboard at the girls varsity softball field from Mega Lift for a cost of $7,100.35, as a Permanent Improvement Fund expenditure.

Crawford added that while these scoreboard replacements are coming out of the Permanent Improvement Fund, the district is seeking sponsorship to help with costs.
