Stow community to hold vigil honoring Latoia Philpott on Feb. 9

Staff report
The Stow community will come together on Sunday, Feb. 9, to honor the life of Latoia Philpott, who died in a homicide on Jan. 27. Police say her boyfriend, Benjamin Asiedu, shot her six times before turning the gun on himself.
City leaders announced that a vigil will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the Stow Community & Senior Center (5344 Fishcreek Rd.), offering friends, family and neighbors a chance to remember Philpott and support her loved ones.
Philpott was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, and friend, known for her vibrant spirit and the warmth she brought to those around her, they said. The vigil will include a candle-lighting ceremony, with candles provided, and moments for reflection and prayer. Local pastors will be present to offer words of comfort, and counselors will be available for those in need of support.
“As we mourn the tragic loss of one of our community members, we are reminded of the deep connections that bind us together,” Stow Mayor John Pribonic said in a statement. “In this time of sorrow, let us come together to support one another, honor the memory of the one we have lost, and strengthen the bonds of our community.”
Local law enforcement will assist with parking and security, and a shuttle service will run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to help attendees access the event.
