Residents of Stow and Silver Lake are about to get another option for their internet service.
Metronet announced this week that it plans multimillion-dollar investments for both communities, with the Evansville, Indiana-based company saying its 100% fiber-optic network will provide service of up to 5 gigabits per second for residents and 10 gigabits per second for businesses.

“We are excited to gain access to another internet option, creating more competition and further enhancing our Village,” Silver Lake Mayor Therese Dunphy said in a statement posted Jan. 28 on the company’s website. “Our partnership with Metronet will continue to boost Silver Lake and the offerings that make our community a great place to learn, work, and live.”

A specific timeline is not yet available, but construction is expected to break ground soon, with the first customers expected to gain service this year, possibly as soon as spring.

Here’s what to expect:
  • Once construction begins, Stow and Silver Lake residents will see Metronet trucks in the area.
  • Residents will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days prior to the start date.
  • Additional notifications, such as yard signs, will also inform residents of upcoming construction.
  • Metronet crews will be identifiable by ID tags and branded vehicles.
“Metronet’s fiber-optic internet offers fast, reliable speeds that empower households and businesses to work, stream, and connect without lag,” Ben Ruzick, a Metronet vice president, said. “We’re grateful for the support from Mayor [John] Pribonic and the city of Stow as we prepare to bring our fiber-optic infrastructure to the area and look forward to growing alongside the community. … [And] we are grateful for our partnership with Mayor Dunphy and the Village Council as we prepare to bring 100% fiber-optic internet to more Ohioans.”

Residents and businesses interested in Metronet’s services can visit metronet.com/oh/stow or metronet.com/oh/silver-lake to sign up for pre-sale and construction updates.

Metronet says it plans to hire local market management positions, sales and customer service professionals, and service technicians to support Stow and Silver Lake. Those interested in employment can visit metronet.com/careers to search available positions and to submit applications.
