As Summit County prepares for summer, the sunnier, hotter days provide crews with the perfect opportunity to line roads with orange barrels as they work on various construction projects throughout the county. 

The following construction updates are from the Summit County Engineer’s Office 2025 Annual Report.

As of May 12, contractors completed permanent striping for the Valley View Road resurfacing part II, marking the completion of the project. 

Looking ahead, the Valley View Road landslide repair is set to begin construction next year, repairing an existing landslide and resurfacing 2 miles of the road from the Cuyahoga County line to Dunham Road. The $3 million project also includes 4-foot-wide shoulders to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe.

As part of the state Route 303 safety improvement project from May to June, the second phase of the 2026 asphalt program will begin on the following streets in Hudson: Brentwood Drive from Lennox Road to Atterbury Boulevard, Oxford Drive from Brentwood Drive to Atterbury Boulevard, Stratford Drive from Boston Mills Road to Brentwood Drive, Milford Drive from East Case Drive to the concrete section, Pinewood Lane from East Streetsboro Street to Fox Trace Lane and Cottager Drive from Young Road to Humelsine Drive. Later in the summer, Stonington Drive from Groton Drive to the dead end, Wethersfield Drive from Valley View to Stonington Drive and Bridgeton Drive from Winterberry Drive to Princewood Drive will also be resurfaced, according to a May 18 update from the city of Hudson.

The Snyder Avenue Bridge replacement in Barberton began work on June 5, requiring the closure of Snyder Avenue at the Tuscarawas River. The closure will not exceed eight months. Traffic will be detoured to Van Buren Road, Robinson Avenue, Wooster Road and Hudson Road, with information about these detours being posted in advance. Access to all adjacent properties will be maintained during construction.

In July, pavement repairs, shoulder restoration, resurfacing and the addition of pavement markings of 1.7 miles of Albrecht Road from the Springfield Township line to Cleveland Avenue will commence. As a part of its construction, 4-foot-wide shoulders will be added to increase cyclist and pedestrian safety.

South Main Street roadway improvements: 1.54 miles of South Main Street from the city of Green to Warner Road will be resurfaced. Construction for the $1.5 million project is anticipated to begin in 2028.

South Main Street reconstruction: South Main Street from north of the Portage Lakes Drive intersection to Axline Avenue will be reconstructed, starting in 2030. The $6 million project includes pavement repairs, shoulder restoration, resurfacing and the addition of pavement markings. As a part of it, the bridge at Vaughn Road will be replaced with the creation of sidewalks on the east side of South Main Street from Portage Lakes Drive to Warner Road and the west side of the street from Warner Road to Vaughn Road.

Springside Drive: Consultants are working on plans to create a sidewalk along the west/north side of Springside Drive from Medina Road to Cleveland Massillon Road. Previously, plans for the project were completed in 2023, but now the project is to be sold in the summer of 2026.

Krumroy Road improvements: About 3.44 miles of Krumory Road from Arlington Road to Myersville Road will be repaired and resurfaced in 2031. Four-foot-wide shoulders will also be added to the road for cyclist and pedestrian safety.

Killian/Pickle roundabout intersection improvement: There are plans to create a roundabout at the intersection of Killian Road and Pickle Road with reprofiling for the eastern approach to improve sight distance. Construction of this roundabout is dependent on securing additional funding.

Sanitarium Road at Canton Road: There are plans to improve the intersection, including constructing a replacement traffic signal with pedestrian cross walks, pedestrian traffic signals, new poles, new traffic signal heads and a sidewalk connecting the Springfield High School driveway to the intersection. No anticipated construction timeline has been announced.
